Westminster Bookstore Book Review: I will be starting a drawing tomorrow for a free copy of this book. Background After , online votes on the Mars Hill Church website, nine questions for Pastor Mark Driscoll emerged as the ones most urgently calling for answers. Inspired by 1 Corinthians, in which Paul answers a series of questions posed by the people in the Corinthian church, Pastor Mark Driscoll set out to determine the most controversial questions among visitors to the Mars Hill Church website. In the end, questions were asked and , votes were cast. The top nine questions are now each answered in a chapter of Religion Saves. After an introductory chapter devoted to the misconception that religion is what saves us, Driscoll tackles nine issues: In his distinctively edgy, yet theologically sound style, Pastor Mark Driscoll addresses the nine most controversial questions posed by visitors to the Mars Hill Church website. 15 Types of God’s Grace – Designed (sermon notes from Mark Driscoll)
On my feedback form I was asked three questions: What has been the greatest improvement to your area in the past year? Better street furniture and pavements Q2. What has been most damaging to your area in the past year?
Pastor Mark Driscoll is a Jesus-following, mission-leading, church-serving, people-loving, Bible-preaching pastor.
However, much has happened since it went up, including the Blogger outage. Scroll down for a report on that. More new posts will be added below this one. The essay below is the conclusion of the ninth part in a series by Takuan Seiyo. See the list at the bottom of this post for links to the previous installments. Their main endeavor has been to enforce their compulsory e. K and discretionary e. Nor the evils of the worldwide Islamic Inquisition which — not in the 16th century but now, in the 21st, condemns Muslim apostates to barbaric execution.
Instead, aggressive White androphobes of all genders which I can no longer count are decimating the philogynous and egalitarian West. Equality psychos are tearing down the most egalitarian society that ever existed except for initial communist experiments, before they turned bloody. American Jews, at the apex of the greatest fortune and philosemitic tolerance their long diaspora has ever bestowed on their kind, are busy supporting all the ideologies and policies that demolish their safe harbor and build up their Muslim, Black and Third World enemies.

Of course, when we are experiencing pain, time is of the essence, right! In thinking about which direction to go in my response, I tried to think about one of the issues brought up that may affect the most people. I just spent some time with family over the Thanksgiving holiday, as I am sure many of you did, which of course is a whole other topic, right?
So who is going to give me counsel on that one?
As a follow-up to Tuesday’s post about the majority-minority public schools in Oslo, the following brief account reports the latest statistics on the cultural enrichment of schools in Austria. Vienna is the most fully enriched location, and seems to be in roughly the same situation as Oslo. Many thanks to Hermes for the translation from
One company that Newt praises is Pfizer, a pharmaceutical company. The reason that Newt likes Pfizer is that, in Florida, it is cooperating with the state to help Medicaid recipients with preventative care, which keeps them out of the emergency rooms and thus saves the health care system money. This partnership also taps into the knowledge and experience of doctors across the state, which Newt likes.
When I read the wikipedia article and did a google search on Pfizer, I saw some things that rang a bell, and more. Pfizer was the company that tried to take advantage of eminent domain, resulting in the Supreme Court Kelo case, which allowed local governments to take private property for economic development.
In , there was controversy about whether or not Newt acted as a lobbyist for Pfizer. And, on wikipedia, I see discussion about Pfizer damaging the environment, lobbying against the prescription drug benefit and the entrance of generic drugs into U. The last item made its way into proposed tort reform legislation in the U. These things concern me, and they tell me that Pfizer may be part of the problem, not just part of the solution.
And, while I think that tort reform can go too far, I agree with Newt that some form of tort reform is necessary, for the fear of being sued inhibits doctors from acknowledging and correcting mistakes, as well as imposes a monetary cost on them. I have an M. This blog is about my journey. I watch movies and TV shows. I go to church.
New Calvinism: A Selected Bibliography
Grace Chapter opens with a very personal tone. A both personal and biblical account of sin. A well painted picture of common grace and the grace God extends to all.
After an introductory chapter devoted to the misconception that religion is what saves us, Driscoll tackles nine issues: birth control, humor, predestination, grace, sexual sin, faith and works, dating, the emerging church, and the regulative principle.
Mark Driscoll The Bible proves single pastors can be effective. The prophet Jeremiah, the apostle Paul and, of course, the Lord Jesus come to mind first. However, they suffered difficult lives and died. If they had wives and children, it would have been virtually impossible to both be faithful to their ministry and faithful to their families. In their circumstances, being single was the best life state for what God was asking of them.
So, as a general rule, it seems that men who are called to pastoral ministry and singleness are also called to difficult and possibly even deadly ministry, such as missionary work in a hostile culture where a family would be a liability. Hillsong seems to cop criticism from all directions. Most of the time I think it is unfair and uncalled for. Most recently they have been in the news because of a program they run in some government schools.
I think it’s safe to say that there hasn’t been another book quite like Pastor Mark Driscoll’s Religion Saves + Nine other Misconceptions (Crossway Books, ). The book addresses 9 touchy-subjects (at least, as deemed by most evangelical churches) with directness, grace and biblical grounding that are seldom found in combination.

Mar 05, · The superficially most compelling case for a lurking new anti-Semitism is the comparative one. It is said that the world is replete with worse cases of oppression and repression; if the international community focuses “obsessively” on Israel, it must be due to an anti-Jewish bias.
Chronological Bible It seems fitting for this to be the first review on my new site. I was blessed to win a giveaway by Melinda at Traveling the Road Home. It takes the entire Bible, puts the passages in the order the events are most likely to have actually occured and then breaks them down into minute daily readings. So far, I’m loving it. It’s nice to make a minute committment to read each day and to know just exactly how much that is.
And it’s a refreshing change to have things mixed-up a bit, yet somehow make even more sense than reading straight through the Bible I’ve known since I was young.

It’s new and it’s changing. It’s dividing and developing as time goes on. It’s not easy to sort it out. The differences are important to be fair and to be able to point out the error where it is. It’s not helpful when anyone under this broad label is condemned, and this is becoming clearer all the time as the differences become clearer. As someone who’s been in this discussion from the beginning, Mark has helpful insights and discernment.
Religion Saves and nine other misconceptions Mark Driscoll Buy-Amazon, christianaudioIn Religion Saves and Nine Other Misconceptions, Mark Driscoll answers a series of questions submitted and voted on by members of his church and people who listen to his podcast.
Driscoll was baptized and raised Catholic, serving as an altar boy for a few years while attending Catholic school. In his teen years, he stopped going to church and had little to no interest in spiritual things. At age nineteen, while in college, Driscoll had a life-changing experience reading the book of Romans in the Bible and he became a Christian.
Shortly thereafter, God spoke audibly to him while at a men’s retreat for a church, telling him to marry Grace his girlfriend since age seventeen , preach the Bible, train men, and plant churches. And that’s precisely what he’s been doing ever since. In , at the age of twenty-five, Pastor Mark and his wife, Grace, started a small Bible study in their home in Seattle, which at the time was one of America’s least-churched cities.
Since that time, the church has exploded, with upwards of thirteen thousand people meeting on Sundays across ten locations with two dozen total services in two states Washington and New Mexico. Mars Hill has been recognized as the sixty-fifth largest, fortieth fastest-growing, and second most innovative church in America by Outreach magazine. Young, single men comprise the largest demographic of Mars Hill Church attendees, which is un- usual since this is statistically the least likely group to attend church.
They come for steady blows of blunt-force Bible truth to the head found in the hour-long sermons that work through books of the Bible. Many of those men, along with women, are becoming Christians; over eight hundred people were baptized at Mars Hill campuses last year alone. In the same year that he spoke at a Gospel Coalition conference with notable contemporary theologians like John Piper and Tim Keller, he discussed biblical sexuality as a guest on Loveline with Dr.

A quantum computer is — or, perhaps more accurately phrased, would be — a wholly different order of mechanism than anything the human species has ever constructed. Gaza rocket fusillade on southern Israel resumes after brief overnight lull. IDF says missiles fired since Monday, including 70 after midnight; some intercepted by Iron Dome; over sites targeted in Gaza; sides warn of heavier fighting to come.
The fresh barrage came after several hours of relative quiet in Israel following an unprecedented and deadly bombardment on Israeli towns near the Gaza border that forced most Israelis in the region to spend the night in bomb shelters and brought the sides back to the brink of war. The transition to two different congregations resulted in some anxiety and stir by members who didn’t want the church to grow bigger, but it resulted in growing attendance. The church continued growing. Inspired by Alan Roxburgh, Driscoll settled on an emerging and missional ecclesiology , and a complementarian view on women in ministry. The church installed the first team of elders and they took over much of the work teaching classes, counseling and training new leaders.
The class has been running every quarter since. Prior to , Driscoll operated as an unpaid pastor for three years. This change also marked their transition to a multi-site church , using video sermons and other multimedia improvements to the church’s web site to connect the campuses.
